Firefighter Fred with a Young FanYoungsters from all over North Carolina have studied hard and are now looking forward to a special reward for all their hard work. What do all they have in common? They have all been using a highly successful phonics program called Letterland. Letterland brings letters to life by turning them into colourful characters, each with their own personality.

The children’s exciting reward is that the Letterland characters are coming to Tweetsie Railroad theme park for three exciting Letterland Adventure Days.

Since they began three years ago, the Letterland Adventure Days have mushroomed into a state-wide affair. Busloads of children will arrive from all over NC to be welcomed by Firefighter Fred and a real fire engine! (courtesy of the Boone fire department). They’ll meet the King and Queen of Letterland, get to ride on Clever Cat’s carousel and drive in one of Golden Girl’s go-cars. They can also travel with Harry Hat Man and Jumping Jim on Talking Tess’s train, visit Zig Zag Zebra’s zoo and much more…

Lyn Wendon and Letterland children at Tweetsie Railroad theme parkThey will also meet the author and originator of Letterland, Lyn Wendon, who will be coming all the way from England to be there in person to greet visitors. Lyn said: “I am thrilled at the way these Letterland Adventure Days link the classroom to the community and literacy to life in ways that are meaningful and fun for everyone. I can’t wait to meet many more members of the worldwide Letterland family! I am so grateful to the wonderful parents/teachers and to Tweetsie for making all of this possible”.
